Truth from God's word

The Trinity

Belief in the Trinity is the belief that there is one eternally existent, sovereign, holy God, Creator of heaven and earth, and Redeemer of mankind.  This God is revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and these three Persons of the triune Godhead are in a state of total unity, so as to be one Lord God Almighty.  This is the basic statement regarding the Trinity that one can find in any Christian church’s statement of faith.

The Bible is very clear on the doctrine of the Trinity.  As a result, this study will proceed with the fact that the Bible clearly shows God as a triune being.  As humans, do we really think we can comprehend the magnitude of a being that is the Creator of the entire universe, which has trillions of stars, and Who created the earth and all the creatures on the earth, from the ant to the elephant?  John Wesley said, “Bring me a worm that can comprehend a man, and then I will show you a man that can comprehend the triune God.”

God is so far above us in our understanding as to His being and complexity.  We can know Him personally as our Saviour.  But His thoughts and His ways are impossible to fully understand this side of eternity.  The Bible says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9).

We can know God through the person of Jesus Christ.  We can know His will, His plan for us, His design for heaven and earth, the future and our eternal life.  Your eternal destiny is the most important thing in the whole world. This study is only focusing on the doctrine of the Trinity.  If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, please contact me and I will clearly show you how to have eternal life.

**The Scriptures speak as if God was a three-part being, using first person plural pronouns, such as “we” and “us.”

1 John 5:7, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
2 Corinthians 13:14, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.”
Matthew 28:19, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”
Isaiah 6:8, “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”
Isaiah 41:22, “Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.”
Genesis 1:26, 31, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”

**The Scriptures refer to Jesus Christ as God, either directly or indirectly.

Luke 8:39, “Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.”
Acts 20:28, “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”
Romans 14:10, 12, “for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.  So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”
1 Timothy 3:16, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh.”
Acts 7:59, “And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”
Hebrews 1:8, “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever.”
John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

*God says He is the only Saviour, yet Jesus Christ is referred to as the Saviour.

Isaiah 43:11, “I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.”
Hosea 13:4, “Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.”

1 John 4:14, “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.”
Titus 3:6, “Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour.”
2 Timothy 1:10, “But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ.”
Philippians 3:20, “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
John 4:42, “for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.”

*Jesus said He was God.

John 8:58, “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”
John 10:30, “I and my Father are one.”
John 10:38, “But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.”

Revelation 22:6, “the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel.”
Revelation 22:16, “I Jesus have sent mine angel.”

*Prophecies that say Jesus is God

Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father…”
Zechariah 12”10, “they shall look upon me whom they have pierced.”

*God created all things. Jesus created all things. Thus Jesus is God.

Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Malachi 2:10, “Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us?”

Colossians 1:16, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.”
John 1:10, “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.”

*What was in the Old Testament a reference to God, is in the New Testament a reference to Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 44:6, “Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.”
Revelation 1:17-18, “And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen.”

Joel 2:32, “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered.”
Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

*The Pharisees and Jewish leaders knew that by Jesus’ actions and words He was making Himself God.

Mark 2:5-7, “When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?”
John 10:33, “The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.”

**The Scriptures refer to the Holy Spirit as God.

Acts 5: 3-4, “Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.”
2 Corinthians 3:17, “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

1 Corinthians 3:16, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God?”
1 Corinthians 6:19, “know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost?”

2 Corinthians 1:21-22, “Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us.”
Ephesians 4:30, “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed.”

Psalm 48:14, “For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.”
John 16:13, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.”

I could go on and on, as there are many other Scriptures that attest to a Triune God. But my time is valuable, as is yours.  I suggest you search the Scriptures and find the ones I didn’t post here.

Also, remember that satan is the great imitator of God.  What God has satan wants, and many things that God does satan can imitate.  Satan has a trinity too.  It’s in Revelation 16:13, “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.”  This is the wicked trinity.

God bless.
