The Animal Kingdom vs. The Bible
The classification of animals is just one more area where science and the Bible don’t agree. I prefer to go with God’s definition and classification of His created beings. After all, God is the one Who created them, so He should be the One Who defines and classifies them.
Google “Animal Classification” and you will get various answers. There are 5 or 6 kingdoms, 7 classifications and 6 groups (which are divided into smaller classes). Yes, I know, it’s confusing. But God is not the author of confusion. His animal classification is simple.
So let’s take a look at the Bible verse that puts the living creatures (flesh) in categories. 1 Corinthians 15:39, “All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.” The Bible says there are 4 categories of living creatures: man, animals, fish and birds. Much more simple than the scientific groups ( or classifications, or kingdoms) of differing quantities and definitions.
Let’s look at another verse that has the same 4 categories, and adds another one – creeping things. Ezekiel 38:20, “So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence.”
We’re going to use an example where science and most “scholars” going against the Bible. Scientists and Bible scholars say that Jonah wasn’t swallowed by a whale. They use many excuses to reject the true, inspired word of God. They say a whale couldn’t swallow a man. Their reasoning is based on science and Biblical unbelief. The Bible has a built-in dictionary. Jonah 1:17 says, “Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.” Jesus Himself defines exactly what the great fish was. Matthew 12:40 says, “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Jesus defined the “great fish” as a whale. The Bible says God “prepared a great fish.” That fish was a whale.
The Greek Bible scholars state that the Greek word has many definitions. That is true, but the King James translators considered every definition of the Greek words used. They prayed and the Holy Spirit told them to define the Greek word as “whale.” Bible scholars want to flaunt themselves over the word of God and create doubt about God’s word, and to show they know more than the translators of the King James Bible.
God defined a whale as a fish in Genesis. Genesis 1:20-22 says, “And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.” God said that whales are classified with fish. They are not animals (beasts). Whales are fish according to God’s word.
That is why in 1 Timothy 6:20 it says, “science falsely so called.” Go by God’s word and not by anything else. God’s word is 100% truth, unlike science and Bible scholars. Don’t let either one cause you to doubt the pure word of God. Believe God’s word!
